Within the last several months the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce has been looking at the rise in popularity of QR Codes through out the country and the world. These little codes can now be seen on everything from your fast food soda cup, the latest issue of your favorite magazine, to the artichokes you purchase in the produce isle (yes, our Communications Director found a QR code attached to some artichokes she purchased).

What is a QR code? Read here for a little QR Code 101.

The Chamber has been brain storming ideas of ways to make this technology benefit our members as well as visitors to Pendleton. Some of those ideas are still ideas, but a few small ideas have come to fruition and we wanted to share.

One of the first ways in which we’ve implemented QR codes is on our front doors! Chamber visitors are now greeted with this poster:

These codes take people to our website listings for lodging, dining, attractions, shopping and the weekend guide.

A version of this will be reduced to postcard size and distributed among hundreds of our Round-Up campers.

We also just started adding QR codes to our advertising. Look for versions of this in the Happy Canyon and Round-Up programs:

This QR code takes people to our Facebook page.

So, we want to know…. have you scanned a QR code? Where at? And does your business or organization use QR codes?

QR codes are being used a in a variety of ways …. check this site out for a list of potential uses …. including temporary tattoos!
