Cycle Oregon Grants Pendleton Parks and Recreation $5,000

Cycle Oregon donated a $5,000 grant to Pendleton Parks and Recreation to help create an afterschool-program. Cycle Oregon received $579,300 in requests, but they only awarded a few grants. We are grateful to Cycle Oregon for selecting our grant proposal.

The after-school program is a new initiative by Pendleton Parks and Recreation. It is a partnership with Pendleton School District and InterMountain Education District. The program came about in response to the community survey administered by Campbell and DeLong Resources, Inc. earlier this year. The community-wide survey showed that the largest unmet recreation need in the community is after-school care.

The program will take place in the elementary schools and consist of physical activity, a nutritious snack, and rotating art, music, and STEM activities. The program costs $8 per kid per day. Partial and full scholarships will be made available to those who need them. Pendleton Parks and Recreation is currently fundraising to start that scholarship fund. It is our goal to provide as many scholarships as needed so no one is turned away. We anticipate serving up to 100 kids the first year.

With the help of this Cycle Oregon grant, we will begin purchasing supplies for physical activities as well as the art, music, and STEM programs.
