Events

25th Annual Wildhorse Pow Wow

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Annual Wildhorse Pow Wow.  The popular cultural gathering attracts Native American dancers and drummers from around the country to celebrate their heritage.

The celebration takes place July 5-7 at Wildhorse Resort & Casino near Pendleton, Oregon.  Grand entry begins at 7pm on Friday, 1pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Over $90,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to outstanding dancers and drummers in a variety of categories.

The host drum for the 25th Annual Wildhorse Pow Wow is Sharp Shooter of St. Paul, MN.  Emcees are Thomas Morning Owl, Fred Hill and Jerry Meninick.

Pow Wow Comedy Night

Wildhorse Resort & Casino is hosting Pow Wow Comedy Night in the Rivers Event Center on Thursday, July 4.  The show will feature comedian Tonia Jo Hall as the headliner.  Hall has gained notoriety as her hilarious alter ego, Auntie Beachress.  Marc Yaffee, who has entertained audiences for over 20 years, will open the show.  Admission is free, show starts at 8pm.

Paquita la del Barrio Concert

Paquita la del Barrio will take the stage at Wildhorse for the first time on Friday, July 26.  Her ranchera style music with bold lyrics has created an enthusiastic fan base.  Beginning her singing career in 1970 in a Mexico City restaurant, Paquita overcame poverty, hardships and bad relationships.  Despite her struggles, Paquita has no regrets in life and she continues to inspire her fans throughout Mexico and the United States.

Purchase tickets online at www.WildhorseResort.com or at the Wildhorse Gift Shop.  Show starts at 8pm, doors open at 7pm.

En Vogue Concert with Tony! Toni! Toné!

The sensational and sexy trio En Vogue will mesmerize fans when they perform at Wildhorse Resort & Casino on Saturday, July 27.  The R&B/pop group comprised of Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron-Braggs and Rhona Bennett, released their latest album, Electric Café, just last year.

The group is flying high off the success of their single, Rocket, which reached the top ten on the Billboard R&B chart in 2018.  This is the second highest chart-topping hit for En Vogue since they burst on the scene and the first composition to rank this high since 2004.  Reach 4 Me hit number 16 last October.

Returning to the Wildhorse stage on Saturday, July 27, is R&B/soul phenomenon Tony! Toni! Toné!  Their 2019 tour, appropriately dubbed “Year of Return,” follows the group’s 30th anniversary celebration.

The band has brought a freshness to their music with the addition of lead singer Dyson Tate and vocalist Frank Stickemz but the sound remains true to their genre and to the timeless style revered by listeners for 30 years.  Founding members and cousins D’Wayne Wiggins and Timothy Christian Riley remain with the group.

Tony! Toni! Toné! has received an American Music Award, two Grammy nominations and five Soul Train awards.

Purchase tickets online at www.WildhorseResort.com or at the Wildhorse Gift Shop.  Show starts at 8pm, doors open at 7pm.

Featured Exhibit

An exhibit that pushes the envelope opens at Tamastslikt Cultural Institute on Friday, July 5.  “Savages and Princesses: The Persistence of Native American Stereotypes” brings together thirteen contemporary Native American visual artists who reclaim their right to represent their identities as Native Americans.

Recognizing that stereotypes often occur without conscious awareness, the exhibition includes didactic information that explores common stereotypes about Native peoples that are falsehoods, followed by the truths behind them.

The exhibit runs through October 19 and admission is free on opening day.  Museum and store hours are 10am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday.  Go to tamastslikt.org for information on admission prices and discounts.

Kinship Cafe

On the first Friday of every month, hearty Indian Tacos are made to order in the Kinship Café at Tamastslikt for only $8.  Monday through Saturday, from 11am to 2pm, the café features mouth-watering lunch specials like tri-tip sandwiches and salmon tacos.  You can preview the weekly specials at tamastslikt.org.
